Care. Community. Common Sense.

A practical, people-first voice for Ward 5. Listening first. Showing up. Getting things done.

Meet Danny. Get Involved.

A lifelong Guelph resident. A career in care

For 35 years, I worked as a community pharmacist and small business owner, serving the residents of Guelph when they needed it most. Now I'm ready to bring that same care, experience, and common sense to City Hall.

My Priorities

1. Arts, Culture & Community: A healthy community is more than roads and taxes. It's music, mentorship, and neighbourhood connection.

2. Neighbours & Volunteerism: Grassroots, mentorship-driven care, reviving informal models like Snow Angels and quiet neighbour check-ins.

3. Smarter Financial Management: A small-business owner's eye for waste, value, and trade-offs in how the city spends.

4. Community-First Homelessness Response: Decades of frontline experience, brought to the table once trust and credibility are built.

MY PRIORITIES FOR WARD 5

1. Arts, Culture
& Community

A healthy community is more than roads and taxes. It's music, mentorship, and neighbourhood connection.

As Board Chair of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, I've seen what happens when a community invests in the things that bring people together. I want to see that same spirit reach every corner of Ward 5: reviving informal, neighbour-to-neighbour models, supporting local arts, and making sure everyone, from long-time residents to new students, feels like they belong here.

"A community is something greater than tax dollars and infrastructure, It is also music, mentorship, and neighbourhood connection."

  — Danny Lui

2. Neighbours & Volunteerism

Grassroots, mentorship-driven care, reviving informal models like Snow Angels and quiet neighbour check-ins.

Some of the best support in this ward has never had a program name attached to it, it's neighbours quietly looking out for neighbours. I want to help bring models like Snow Angels and VBA's shut-in check-ins back to life, and make it easier for residents of every age to look out for the people next door.

"How do we take care of our neighbours, quietly and consistently?"
  — Danny Lui

3. Smarter Financial Management

A small-business owner's eye for waste, value, and trade-offs in how the city spends.

As a small-business owner for over three decades, I know what it costs to run something well, and what it costs to run it carelessly. I'll bring that same eye for value and trade-offs to how the city spends. Growth in Ward 5 should strengthen this community, not strain it: that means planning ahead on infrastructure, being honest about intensification, and cutting waste, not care.

"In order to thoughtfully grow, we need to respect money, measure trade-offs, cut waste and not cut care."
  — Danny Lui

4. Community-First Homelessness Response

Decades of frontline experience, brought to the table once trust and credibility are built.

For over a decade, I worked in addiction medicine and outreach pharmacy, and I helped secure 24 supportive housing beds here in Guelph. I know this work takes patience, and I know it takes credibility before it takes action. Once I've built influence at the table, I'll use it to keep moving this file forward, thoughtfully, and with the whole ward's trust behind it.

"I want to represent the people that have solutions to the challenges that impact us all as residents and as a community.”
  — Danny Lui

About Danny Lui

A career in care. A lifetime in Ward 5.

Hi, I’m Danny Lui

I've called Ward 5 home for close to 30 years. For 35 of those, I ran a community pharmacy here as a small business owner, which meant I spent my days doing the same three things over and over: showing up, listening first, and helping people solve real problems. Not the kind of problems that show up in a press release, the kind that show up at 4:45 on a Friday when someone needs an answer before the weekend.

I'm not a career politician, and I'm not running because I have all the answers.

I'm running because I've spent three and a half decades building the kind of trust that comes from actually being there. As Board Chair of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and Interim Chair of Sanguen Health Centre, I've kept doing that work in retirement, just on a different stage.

Along the way, I've had the chance to help build things that matter here: a decade of outreach pharmacy work supporting Guelph's most vulnerable residents, and a role in helping secure 24 supportive housing beds at Edinburgh Place and Sidney House. I've also spent years quietly connecting people who don't usually sit at the same table, residents, frontline workers, city agencies, and neighbours, because that's where real solutions come from.

"If I don't step up and use what I've learned to help this city, what was the last thirty-five years for?"
  — Danny Lui

How I Lead

Leadership isn't about knowing everything. It's about bringing the right people together, listening to your team, and treating mistakes as problems to solve, not crimes to punish. When I handed my pharmacy over to my team after 35 years, the business ran seamlessly without me, because I built a team, not a one-man operation. That's the kind of leadership I want to bring to council.

I won't promise what I'm not prepared to deliver. And when I don't know the answer, I'll tell you so, and then I'll find out.

By the Numbers

35 - years in community pharmacy

27 - years as a Ward 5 resident

2 -  current board leadership roles
